Success Recognised at Enterprise Awards
Creggan
Enterprises Limited (CEL) a social economy initiative that
manages and runs the Ráth Mór Business and
Community Complex on behalf of the local community, has
received recognition for its role as a successful, innovative
and sustainable community enterprise. CEL was one of five
winners of the Enterprising Solutions Awards held on Tuesday
28 October 2003 at the Royal Bank of Scotland/NatWest, London.
The Awards were co-sponsored by the Department of Trade
and Industry, The Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest in
association with the Observer and Social Enterprise Magazine.
The Enterprising Solutions Awards cover Northern Ireland,
Scotland, Wales and England. The awards have been designed
to represent thousands of social economy enterprises that
contribute to the wellbeing of society. Nigel Griffiths,
Under Secretary of State for Small Business and Enterprise
who presented the awards said that the winners of this year’s
awards show clearly how the social economy can dramatically
improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.
Andrew Robinson, head of community development banking at
Royal Bank of Scotland/NatWest and member of the judging
panel said “all the winners of the Enterprise Awards
have demonstrated their passion for social and economic
change and justice...”
Anne Molloy, Chairperson, CEL speaking after receiving the
award said, “The award is recognition for the voluntary
board of directors and staff who have all worked to make
CEL a model of best practice within the social economy”.
Conal McFeely, Development Executive, CEL said: “We
are delighted with this prestigious award – coming
up on our 10th anniversary. CEL has demonstrated the importance
of community ownership and co-operative ways of working
in helping rebuild local economies. This award belongs to
all the residents of Creggan and our supporters.”
