Local Community Origins
Founded in 1979 as a community-publishing house, Guildhall Press (GP) have a unique track record in the North West for producing publications across a diverse range of themes and topics. Our original remit from 1979 was to produce local history material and make it accessible at subsidised cost to the educational sector and general public.
Since the discontinuation of the ACE scheme in 2000, Guildhall Press have built up a substantial storehouse of technical expertise and in-house skills in research, writing, proofreading, editing, typesetting, layout, graphic and web design, visual arts and photography. This has enabled us to diversify into professionally produced fiction, tourism and photographic publications. Increasingly, we undertook this graphic design work for a growing range of other community and tourism related organisations on a contract basis. More recently, we have been commissioned to design and mount several large-format visual displays and exhibitions.
GP have been designing and laying out all our printed output for over two decades using state-of-the-art equipment and software. We market and sell our publications throughout Ireland and GB as well as globally via the internet.
Our contribution to literature development, tourism promotion and local history recording has been recognised by public bodies such as the Arts Council of N Ireland and Derry City Council who currently support us under Service Level Agreement funding programmes. We have also received funding for our work from Big Lottery, Community Relations Council, Peace I & II through Derry City Council Local Area Partnerships, Honourable Irish Society and Arts & Business (NI) among others.
Guildhall Press are members of the Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau, A&B (NI) and Clé, the Irish Publishing Association.
